The Rutgers University Department of Materials Science & Engineering sponsors a summer research program for junior and senior undergraduates majoring in a physical science or engineering discipline and talented high school students who are considering majoring in these same fields.  In its fourth year, the internship program is a continuation of a program previously sponsored by a NJ Commission on Higher Education grant to develop the Nanomaterials Science and Engineering (NMSE) Curriculum. Continued funding of the program is from local organizations.

The purpose of the NMSE grant was to develop a multidisciplinary course of study at the undergraduate level in the field of nanomaterials and nanotechnology and to provide undergraduates with the skills necessary to become productive in industry or to continue with their education at the graduate level.

A goal of this internship program is to retain New Jersey’s most talented high school students in New Jersey schools such as Rutgers.

This past summer, we had our most talented pool of applicants. We selected 7 Undergraduate students and 12 high school students to participate in the program this year and the programs ran from June through August.

The Summer 2006 High School Nanomaterials Internships will be held from July 5-August 17, 2006.
