Three visiting scholars arrived over the summer: Dr. Purnendu Parhi from Ravenshaw University, India; Dr. Malka Pinkas, from the Nuclear Research Center-Negev, Israel; and Dr. Pradeesh Kannan from Government Victoria College, India. They join Abdul Rahman, who arrived in January.

Laura Fabris, Associate Professor, was recently awarded a $50K 2016 Busch Biomedical Research Grant. She is the principal investigator for the project titled “Multiplexed Phenotype Profiling of Prostate Cancer Cells”. Dr. Fabris is also beginning her first semester this year as a tenured professor, effective July 1st. Congratulations Laura!

Lisa Klein has been a pioneering professor and scientist, faculty union president and strong supporter of women and minorities
Lisa C. Klein is a woman of firsts.
She was the first female professor in Rutgers University’s School of Engineering in 1977.
She’s performed pioneering research on sol-gel processing – a low temperature way to make ceramics and coatings that led to energy-saving coatings for windows.

Rutgers University engineers have found a simple method for producing high-quality graphene that can be used in next-generation electronic and energy devices: bake the compound in a microwave oven.
The discovery is documented in a study published online today in the journal Science.

A group of students studying glass processing in the Rutgers/Corning Glass Engineering Laboratory this summer decided a mid-summer road trip to Corning, NY was needed. Led by Laboratory Manager Dr. Bob Horvath and Professor Lehman, the group of four students (Justin Moore, Sweta Kondapalli, Andrew Tabedzki, and Ashley Luster) spent three days in Corning (July 7-9) learning about the processes used in glass making, the history of glass, and working directly with the hot glass medium itself.

Congratulations to Steven Cheng on receiving the 2016 US Department of Energy - Integrated University Scholarship for his research in the field of nuclear waste management. Steven Cheng is an undergraduate student at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Rutgers University. He is working under the mentorship of Prof. Ashutosh Goel and his research is focused towards understanding structure and chemical durability of borosilicate based nuclear waste glasses.
