Hisato Yamaguchi, a post-doctoral associate in Professor Chhowalla's group, has won a prestigious fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. The JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research Abroad is highly competitive and rarely given to postdoctoral researchers outside of the top US institutions such as Stanford, MIT, and UC Berkeley. In addition, Dr. Yamaguchi was awarded the fellowship outright, without the normally required interview.

Faculty from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering will lead a multiple university national laboratory research thrust within a new $17M US DOE Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) announced by the White House. This multi-university and national lab EFRC entitled, Northeastern Chemical Energy Storage Center, is led by SUNY Stony Brook.
